FOA Instructor Code of
Conduct:
- Only FOA certified instructors (CFOS/I) may conduct a class that is
aimed at FOA certification. FOA Instructors are not authorized to allow
someone to teach an FOA course that they are responsible for.
Another person may assist in the classroom or observe the class but only
under the direct supervision of a FOA certified instructor.
- FOA instructors must sign each student application affirming that each
student has met FOA requirements on both the written test and skills in
the lab in order to be FOA certified. The instructor must review
the FOA KSAs and agree that student evaluation will include Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities (see http://www.thefoa.org/KSAs.htm)
- Only the FOA instructor giving an FOA course can sign the student
applications. The FOA does not use Proctors and no one else is
authorized to sign applications.
- FOA Instructors are not authorized to certify another
instructor. They may train an assistant who may apply to the FOA
for instructor certification.
- The FOA expects that FOA Instructors will perform their duties
conscientiously, honestly, and in accordance with the best interests of
the Fiber Optic Association.
- FOA Instructors are not employees of the FOA nor are they authorized
to act for the FOA unless specifically authorized in writing.
- FOA Instructors must not use their relationship to the FOA for private
or personal gain.
- FOA Instructors must avoid participating in any other activity that
would create a conflict of interest with the FOA
- FOA Instructors must not use FOA identification, stationery, supplies,
and equipment for personal matters.
- When communicating publicly on matters that involve FOA business, FOA
instructors must not presume to speak for the FOA on any topic, unless
they have obtained written permission from the FOA beforehand, but
should refer such matters to the FOA officers.
- When dealing with anyone outside the FOA, including public officials,
FOA Instructors must take care not to compromise the integrity or damage
the reputation of the FOA.
- FOA Instructors must comply with all FOA Guidelines. If
uncertain about interpreting of any of our guidelines, please contact
the FOA.
Withdrawal of Approval
and Certification
- Approval of a course
may be withdrawn at any time with 30 day notice if the course fails to
meet FOA requirements, there is a violation of Instructor Code of
Conduct, is given by a non-FOA CFOT instructor, if unresolved complaints
are received regarding the course or the school does not submit
certification applications and payments promptly. FOA instructors who
violate FOA guidelines will be warned and their certification may be
removed if the issues are not resolved.
